Synopsis: |
The Venus Theory is a documentary film about the possibility of a sudden catastrophic climate change and the greenhouse effect spiralling out of control on the Earth. At the same time, it draws a picture of the greenhouse effect in general. The main character of the documentary is an American professor Charles Keeling, who proved the intensification of the greenhouse effect in the early 1960s and is still considered to be one of the pioneers in the world´s climate research. Many other leading climate researchers are also interviewed in the film.
We discover that the chances of our planet turning into a steaming hot furnace like the planet Venus are remote. The Earth will probably be saved by life itself, which significantly regulates the greenhouse effect. On the other hand, it has only recently been revealed that our climate change is much more radical than previously presumed. Though not all life on Earth would be destroyed by climate change, the immediate future of human civilisation still looks bleak.
The film´s audiovisual narration creates a 24-hour image of the Earth.
