Synopsis:

They had nothing, and were willing to risk it all during the swing summer of ´57.

Harbour Brothers is not exactly a true story, but there are some things that are based on reality. The story portrays the 1950s, an exciting time in Finnish musical history, when boats from all over the world docked in the port city of Kotka. In addition to transporting goods, the sailors brought another import: jazz, swing and blues.

The film centres around a few guys from Kotka who open Fennia, a jazz bar that becomes a legend in its own time, where they play music and hold court like emperors. That´s where the film got its Finnish name, Keisarikunta, which translates to The Empire. During one summer, the Harbour Brothers conquer the souls of the sailors and the people of Kotka.

The drummer of the band, Rempo, almost loses everything because of the band, including his fiancée Aila. This is a story about a young man´s choice between the two big loves of his life: a woman and the music. The soundtrack includes many classics from the 50’s: I´m A Dreamer, Digadigadoo and Nature Boy, which are presented in their original language, English.
