The House of Branching Love number two after opening weekend
26.8.2009

The new Mika Kaurismäki film The House of Branching Love (Haarautuvan rakkauden talo), opened on August 21. Its first weekend result was 7 321 admissions, which made it number two in Top Ten.

The motto of the film, Breaking up is hard to do. Staying together is even harder. is a compact characterization of this edgy romantic comedy. It is distributed in Finland by FS Film with 39 release prints. The film is produced by Mika Kaurismäki´s own production company Marianna Films. International sales are handled by Wide Management. The international premiere will take place at Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The second domestic premiere of the autumn season is Last Cowboy Standing (Skavabölen pojat) by Zaida Bergroth, opening on September 4. This debut feature has already received very positive attention after having a gala premiere last weekend at Espoo Ciné International Film Festival in Finland. Last Cowboy Standing is a heartfelt drama about the ups-and-downs of a family, set in Finland during the 70s and 80s. It is produced by Jarkko Hentula / Juonifilmi and distributed in Finland by FS Film.
