Letters to Father Jacob is Finland´s entry for Foreign Language Film Oscar

Klaus Härö´s Letters to Father Jacob (Postia pappi Jaakobille, 2009) has been selected by Finland´s official selection committee as the Finnish contender for the Foreign Language Film Oscar.
Letters to Father Jacob is produced by Rimbo Salomaa and Lasse Saarinen / Kinotar Oy and written by Klaus Härö, based on original idea by Jaana Makkonen. The cast includes Kaarina Hazard, Heikki Nousiainen, Jukka Keinonen and Esko Roine. Other main crew includes cinematographer Tuomo Hutri, editor Samu Heikkilä, sound designer Kirka Sainio, composer Dani Störmbäck, set designer Kaisa Mäkinen and costume designer Sari Suominen.
Letters to Father Jacob premiered in Finland on April 3rd, 2009, distributed by Nordisk Film. International sales are handled by FilmSharks.
Finland´s expert jury made its decision after watching the 15 Finnish films eligible this year: Black Out, Falling Angels, Forbidden Fruit, Hellsinki, The House of Branching Love, The Interrogation, Last Cowboy Standing, Letters to Father Jacob, Niko and the Way to the Stars, One Foot Under, Overseas and Under Your Skin, Rally On!, Sauna, Three Wise Men and The Visitor.
The jury described Letters to Father Jacob as a depiction of a moment in life, a beautiful and touching film that leaves the minds of the audience silent. The actors bring the characters alive with subtle elements. The film is visually beautiful, the aesthetic and harmonious world created by the cinematography, set design and costume design are supported by the subtle but effective sound design and beautiful music.
