Great supply of Finnish cinema in Madrid area

A large number of Finnish films will be screened in Madrid and its surroundings during the month of November.
November is the month of Finnish design in the city of Madrid in Spain. The local residents have a chance to experience Finnish culture in its many forms by visiting e.g. exhibitions, seminars, theatre performances and film screenings. The highlight of the film programme is the screening of Aki Kaurismäki´s silent film Juha, accompanied live by Anssi Tikanmäki Orchestre. Other films in the programme include several Aki and Mika Kaurismäki films as well as The Land of Happiness (Onnen maa) by Markku Pölönen, Blindfolded (Sokkotanssi) by Matti Ijäs and Thomas by Miika Soini.

The Alcine festival in Alcalá de Henares has invited to the festival competition the short documentary Hanasaari A by Hannes Vartiainen and Pekka Veikkolainen. In addition, seven other Finnish titles are screened in the festival´s Nordic retrospective section.

Also the FICI International Children and Youth Film Festival in Madrid has selected three Finnish titles for their programme. Stormheart (Myrsky) by Kaisa Rastimo and The Home of Dark Butterflies (Tummien perhosten koti) by Dome Karukoski in the competitions of the festival and Ricky Rapper (Risto Räppääjä) by Mari Rantasila outside competition. |
