Between Dreams and Niko & The Way to the Stars nominated for European Film Awards

The films nominated for European Film Awards in categories Short Film and Animated Feature Film include the Finnish titles Between Dreams by Iris Olsson (short documentary) and Niko and the Way to the Stars (Niko – lentäjän poika) by Michael Hegner and Kari Juusonen (animated feature film). Tears of April (Käsky) by Aku Louhimies is waiting on the selection list for a possible nomination for best feature films.
Niko & The Way to the Stars is one of the three nominated titles in category Animated Feature Film, a brand new category in the European Film Awards. Niko has won the Jussi Awards (Finnish “Oscars”) for best film and best script and the Cinekid Lion Awards of the jury as well as of the audience. Le Film Français declared it to be the third best European film in 2008. Niko has been sold to over 100 countries around the world. It is produced by Hannu Tuomainen and Petteri Pasanen / Anima Vitae & Cinemaker. International sales are handled by Telepool.
Nominations for the European Short Film Award are made at 13 different film festivals during the year. The jury of Grimstad Norwegian Short Film Festival nominated Between Dreams in June. The film depicts the 3rd class passengers of a Trans-Siberian train, and their dreams. The film is produced by Nisi Masa, Mirumir and Moviement RU.
The nominations for Best European Film are announced in early November.
The Awards Ceremony takes place on December 12, 2009 in Ruhr Metropolis, Germany.
