If You Love and Under the North Star in Top Ten

The first local premiere of 2010,If You Love (Jos rakastat) by Neil Hardwick sold 23 184 tickets during its first five days on screens (13 919 during last weekend, premiere on January 6). It is now number two on the chart. If you love is an edgy musical love story between a politician´s daughter and an immigrant family´s son, produced by Jarkko Hentula / Juonifilmi Oy and distributed in Finland by FS Film Oy on 59 screens.
Under the North Star (Täällä Pohjantähden alla) by Timo Koivusalo, sold 7 900 tickets during its sixth weekend on screens (total admissions 129 962, number six on the chart). The film is based on Väinö Linna´s famous novels about the forming of the modern Finnish society, read and loved by most Finns. It is produced by Koivusalo´s own company Artista Filmi and distributed in Finland by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Finland, now on 60 screens.
The next local premiere is Backwood Philosopher (Havukka-ahon ajattelija) by Kari Väänänen. It premieres on screens throughout the country on January 15, after having already had the very first screenings in the Eastern Finland´s area called Kainuu, where the story is located. Backwood Philosopher is a story about an uneducated but smart lumberjack who has developed Baron von Münchhausen-like visions on how the world is constructed. The story is based on a hugely popular novel by Finnish author Veikko Huovinen. The film is produced by Marko Röhr & Mikko Tenhunen / MatilaRöhrNordisk Oy and distributed in Finland by Nordisk Film Oy.
