Last Cowboy Standing in Gothenburg competition

The feature film debut of Zaida Bergroth, Las Cowboy Standing (Skavabölen pojat) has been invited to the competition of Gothenburg International Film Festival in Sweden (January 29 – February 8, 2010). Only eight Nordic films were accepted to the competition series.
Last Cowboy Standing had its international premiere last October at Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea, where it won the Main Award of the Flash Forward competition. It is nominated for the Finnish Jussi film awards in two categories: best script (Antti Raivio, Jan Forsström, Zaida Bergroth) and best sound design (Janne Laine). In Finland, Last Cowboy Standing premiered last September, and in the co-production country Germany it will open in cinemas next summer. The main producer of the film is Jarkko Hentula / Juonifilmi. International sales are handled by m-appeal.
Last Cowboy Standing is a heartfelt drama about the ups-and-downs of a family, set in Finland during the 70s and 80s, starring Ilmari Järvenpää, Onni Tommila, Lauri Tilkanen, Iiro Panula, Martti Suosalo, Leea Klemola, Tommi Korpela, Elina Knihtilä, Sulevi Peltola and Eila Roine.
Further seven Finnish titles have been invited to other sections of Gothenburg International Film Festival. Letters to Father Jacob (Postia pappi Jaakobille) by Klaus Härö is competing for the Nordic Film Music Prize. The Nordic Light series includes the feature films Heartbeats (Kohtaamisia) by Saara Cantell, The Interrogation (Kuulustelu) by Jörn Donner and Under the Northstar (Täällä Pohjantähden alla) by Timo Koivusalo, the feature-length documentary Freetime Machos by Mika Ronkainen and the short films Do You Still Remember Hilma Limperi (Vieläkö muistatte Limperin Hilman) by Jukka Kärkkäinen and Up and About Again (Jalkeilla taas) by Maarit Suomi-Väänänen.
