Joonas Berghäll
Joonas Berghäll (b. 1977, Kemi, Finland) has worked in the film industry since 1998. He writes, directs, and produces films through his own production company, Dreamland Pictures / Oktober Oy. Berghäll’s next directorial work is Elf (2025), a large-scale international production. His feature documentary films Red Ring (2021), Mother’s Wish (2015), and Steam of Life (2010) have enjoyed international success. Steam of Life was Finland’s official submission for the Academy Awards, and it was nominated for the European Film Awards in 2010. As a producer, Berghäll’s recent credits include Je’vida (2022), Daniel (2019, co-produced with Netflix), and Baby Jane (2019). His work is recognised for combining strong emotional storytelling with themes that resonate across cultures.
Hannes Vartiainen
Hannes Vartiainen (b. 1980 Kuopio, Finland) has worked in the film industry since 2004. With a background in cutting edge experimental cinema, his films have been screened at numerous prestigious festivals, including Venice, IDFA, and Clermont-Ferrand. His short film Emergency Calls (2013, with Pekka Veikkolainen) was nominated for the European Film Awards, and his body of work is known for combining visual innovation with emotional depth. In addition to his festival-acclaimed shorts, Vartiainen has brought science and environmental themes to wide family audiences. Elf (2025) marks his feature film debut, blending visual artistry with a heartfelt family adventure designed to resonate across generations.
