Panu Suuronen

Suuronen graduated with an MA at the Edinburgh University – Edinburgh College of Art, 2008. In his films, societal turmoil intertwines with the protagonist’s life. The style of storytelling is character-driven documentary combined with cinematic montages and the protagonist’s inner thoughts. His first mid-length documentary Summer Guard (2016) premiered same year at the Helsinki International Film Festival and later aired on TV in Finland and Sweden. It delved into the moral dilemmas faced by a 19-year-old prison guard. His next film Killing Tony (2020) focused on a deliveryman’s struggle to avoid termination due to a transgender butterfly within him. His film Regina – Queen of the Ring (2024) premiered at DocPoint following screenings at Tampere Film Festival and Nordisk Panorama. The feature documentary tells the empowering story of a young woman pursuing stardom.
