Jussi Award nominees 2023 announced

A jury invited by Filmiaura has selected the nominees for the 2023 Jussi Awards.

A jury invited by Filmiaura has selected the Jussi Award nominees of 2023. Altogether 35 feature films and 15 documentary films were eligible. 14 films received nominations, with Girl Picture leading with eight nominations.

Filmiaura decided last year to renew the gender-based acting categories. This year, there are four acting categories that are not gendered: best leading and supporting actor, best newcomer and “bright spot of the screen” (“valkokankaan valopilkku”). The newcomer award can be given to an actor who has not been nominated in an acting category before and who has not had more than two leading roles in cinema releases. The bright spot award is given to an actor whose role or roles that year have made a special impact.

The Finnish national film awards, Jussi Awards, have been given since 1944. The winners are chosen by the members of Filmiaura. This year’s gala will take place on Friday, March 24, 2023.
