Two Finnish films to premiere at Locarno

Anna Eriksson returns to the Swiss festival with her new film E. Silent Legacy premieres at the Critics’ Week. Three Finnish producers join the Match Me! programme.

One of the major summer events, Locarno Film Festival takes place August 6–16, 2025. Finishing her trilogy, Anna Eriksson’s E will screen in the Fuori Concorso, Out of Competition. The previous films in the trilogy, M (2018) premiered at Venice and W (2022) at Locarno.
In the film, Ex-Prime minister of Finland causes a scandal at the Nobel gala and soon finds herself lost in the Desert of the Real. Eriksson stars in the film she wrote and directed, with Ihode Management’s Matti Pyykkö as the producer. The domestic premiere is on September 26, 2025.
Silent Legacy, directed by Jenni Kivistö and Jussi Rastas, has been selected to the Locarno Critics’ Week. The documentary film features Sibiry, a choreographer from Burkina Faso now living in Finland, who struggles with the unrealistic expectations from his original home country, while also seeking connection in his new country.
Silent Legacy is produced by Ella Ruohonen for Väki Films and co-produced by Ellis Films in France and Pilumpiku Production in Burkina Faso.
For the second year, Finnish Film Foundation is a partner of the Match Me! programme, part of Locarno Pro. The Finnish producers selected to the programme are Paria Eskandari (Mozhi Films), Pauliina Maus (Making Movies) and Joon Tervakari (Tarasow Films).
